4WD Dyno Cell Construction Blog.
(Part 8... The Ultimate Office!)

It was a little surreal opening up the next day and having a working 4wd rolling road dyno in the building after all the work that had gone in to the job. Finally it felt like we had achieved something. Over the next few days we finished the cell off with a few finishing touches, fitted the final acoustic tiles and generally just tidied up. The images can tell the story.

The reception area is looking homely now, and you can hold a quiet conversation in here with the dyno running full chat. The TV on the wall shows the cell from 4 angles so you can watch us work.

2x 48" Panasonic Plasma TV's running anything we want from the dyno software to mapping software, our Pico oscilloscope, Gizzmo knock monitoring system, Snap on Verdict... and pretty much anything else we want to throw at it.

The all important weather station. Dyno's require ambient temperature, cell pressure and humidity readings to be input every run. Without automation this is laborious and leads to operators not bothering and thus, incorrect figures. Our system does it automatically at the start of every run... all data is collected here.

Isn’t she beautiful? I am proud of this dyno cell. Hardly a wire in sight, and all dyno operation is via wireless keyboard and a wireless fan controller.

The lighting tubes were changed a couple of times until I found a colour I liked that made working more pleasant, not too dark, not too bright. Perfect.

A friend was keen to get his Mustang on there, and took these few great images for me.

And that is pretty much it, we had to get the cell pressure correct for the fan balance and once that was done, it was time to do some actual testing as opposed to just playing about and enjoying the dyno.
