Air Fuel Ratio Analysis.

Most vehicle owners will understand that an engine requires fuel and air in order to work at all, but most don't understand that the precise ration of fuel to air is the factor that determines how economical, powerful and reliable that same engine will be.

AFR? What difference does it make?

Too lean and it may overheat or worse, destroy a piston. Too rich and the fuel economy will be terrible and it will lose power (Petrol) or smoke badly (Diesel) The correct air fuel ratio is paramount to the good running, performance and economy of your engine.

We have been analysing Air / Fuel Ratio's (AFR) for over 20 years. Utilising the worlds most accurate AFR equipment from ECM labs, we have NTK Lab Grade wideband systems that will analyse accurately from 1.0:1 right down to 50.0:1 with an industry leading 0.001% accuracy across the range.

We have also written many technical articles in the national press about tuning and one of them was a large 2-part article about AFR that you may enjoy. Its reproduced here for you to enjoy.

There are very few workshops in the UK with the correct equipment to do this, and we don’t know of a single main dealer with it. Even if a workshop did have it, would a technician know when 11.5:1 was required or if it should be 13:1? Unlikely, unless he has had specific training in ECU calibration.
